Psi-Paladins and Techno-Barbarians has arrived

Ganesha Games' had another kickstarter earlier this year for their Mutants and Death Ray Guns game (MDRG for short).  This supplement was for Psi-Paladins and Techno-Barbarians (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/9742092/psi-paladins-and-techno-barbarians-28mm-miniatures).

Its a relatively short supplement that introduces psychic mystics (ex: Jedi) and three heroes of the wastelands (ex: Thundarr the Barbarian).  I pledged for the highest tier so that I could get the miniatures, the game mat, and the paperback copies of MDRG and its first supplement Project Simian Ultra X.

First up were the paperback books.  MDRG is about 92 pages while Project Simian Ultra X (PSUX) is about 87 pages.  Fans of Song of Blades and Heroes will understand the rules easily, but the pages crammed with traits specifically for MDRG add a whole new layer to the game.  All the faction choices are unique, makes me wonder where its even possible to get miniatures to represent some of them.

The following 10 miniatures were part of my kickstarter pledge.  I did not add Lord Phalag and his minions, although those miniatures looked very characterful.  But I got the 4 Psi-Paladins, the 3 Techno-Barbarians, and 3 Combots.   They all came with clear bases, but I chose not to use them.

And here is the wasteland game mat, roughly 3' x 3'.  It appears to be an irradiated crater-filled deadzone.  Which is perfect for MDRG or for other sci-fi games.

Thundarr the Barbarian, Princess Ariel, and Ookla the Mok.  Well almost.  Its Dashar with his Photovoltaic Sword, Lady Azura the Blue Sorceress, and Ferragg the Lion of the Wasteland!

Well hopefully I can get them painted up soon and onto the tabletop.  I have yet to play MDRG, but as a veteran of other Ganesha Games I doubt there is much extra to learn other than new traits.  I'm also contemplating converting Warhammer 40k units over to it as well.

Axe and Brimstone Kickstarter

Ganesha Games has a new Kickstarter for the Song of Blades and Heroes game system.  This one is a narrative campaign, introducing two warbands; Halflings and Possessed Dwarves.  There will be miniatures, a book, and even a game mat!

How to play Advanced Song of Blades and Heroes

Song of Blades and Heroes has been around for several years.  It was even nominated for the Origins Award for "Best Miniature Rules" back in 2008.  There have been many expansions and supplements for Song of Blades and Heroes (SoBH for short), even some third-party games that use the same or similar game engine; such as, Shadowsea, Of Gods and Mortals, and Song of Our Ancestors.  And recently the game has been updated into Advanced Song of Blades and Heroes, which adds even more spice to the mix.

A lot of forums have active threads about people playing SoBH or painting miniatures to use in SoBH.  But I was surprised at the lack of any videos about it online or the lack of any main-stream attention in general.  If you look at games like Kings of War and Frostgrave and Infinity, they've been around about half the time SoBH has and new battle reports pop up daily on Youtube or in forums about them.

In the several years since SoBH has been released, there has been only a small handful of videos out there, some of which are really old.  Well, its all about to change.  Ganesha Games has revealed a competition, which will lead up to their next Kickstarter called Axe and Brimstone.  The competition is to make a 15 min or less video explaining many of the basic rules of Advanced Song of Blades and Heroes and post it to Youtube before September 10th.  Well, I decided to give it a try.

Table Titans Kickstarter

I pledged for the Table Titans Kickstarter a looooong time ago.  It was to be just a hardback book of the collected Table Titans webcomic.  But then some stretch goals were added to make it more special.  I received it a couple weeks back, just never got around to take pictures, until now!

Fightin' Fungi progress report - 8/4/15

I've slowly been working on the Fightin' Fungi miniatures, along with some terrain.  All of this is still very much a work-in-progress but I just wanted to show how far along things have come.

This is the Wizard's Tower, along with a Fungi Spellcaster.  For game purposes, I wanted to have a random teleport mechanic to enable characters to teleport across the map.  I have another terrain feature with a teleport platform.  As for creation; foam for the base, cardboard tube for tower, hot glue for spirals, and flocking.  Minimal painting so far.

This is to be a simple Watch Tower, with crenellated top for archers and some broken walls for cover around the tower.  Creation; cardboard tube, cardboard bits/base, son's plastic toy walls, sand, and rough painting.

Here we have a couple Fungi Archers and the Enoki Ranger.

The multi-option Fungus Infantry (going to convert into a Leader) is in charge of this Fungus Axeman, Oaken Spear, and a Slinger.  I think I might make the multi-option Fungus Infantry a cape to give him a more Leader-like quality.

Here is the Teleport Platform terrain piece, along with some of the more unsavory looking Fungus people, most likely from the Rotten Hearts faction.  

A Flying Eye Fungus, a Master of Mushrooms, and an Enoki Cleric look menacing enough.

The hungry looking Swamp Lion Fungus.

A forest terrain piece, defended by some friends of the woods.  The Mykityad Forest Nymph to the far left, Fungus Queen protected by a Matanagar bodyguard, and the Amazon Fungi.

The Fungus King is in strange company; with a Spore Monster Heavy Infantry to his right, a Puff Ball Launcher Spore Monster (with little Puff Ball) and a baby Sporeling. 

The truly terrifying Swamp Fungus has a friend in the Vampire Fungus.  

A couple more forest terrain pieces along with my cavalry.  I'm still waiting on a rider for another Worm Cavalry and a halfling-rider for another pig.

The Pillbug Heavy Cavalry and a Worm Rider.  I wish I had cavalry bases, but I'm not a big stickler on bases anyways.  These will work just fine.

And here are my two Grasshopper Cavalry, and Andrea Underfoot/Davey Snoutbottom.

Progress is progressing

Just a couple WIP pictures of the assembled Wrath of Kings miniatures I'll be using to play Song of Blades and Heroes.  Yes, I can't paint to save my life.  At least rate me an 'A' for effort and enthusiasm.

Hadross will be proxies for an aquatic faction in my fantasy realm.  These sea-dwelling forces invade the shores of surface folk for their own nefarious reasons.  

These Goritsi will be part of a decadent society of vampires, nobles and highborn that hide among the mortal human upper-class while feeding on the poor and destitute of the cities.

The Goritsi werewolves will be the Wulfkin.  These humanoid wolves hunt the wilds of mountains and forests.  Some simply defend their territories and nature itself.  Others seek to sow chaos and death to those who would dare enter their realm, tracking them back to their homesteads and villages to slay them all.

Wrath of Kings Assemble!

This is all of the Goritsi and Hadross assembled and ready for painting.  Of course, a fine collection of reading material makes an excellent background and shares shelf space for this mass of plastic.

I have not looked too much into the actual Wrath of Kings ruleset, though the rulebook seems quite nice and the gameplay videos appear to be fairly straight foward.  But of course I'm looking at Song of Blades and Heroes for future campaigns.  There are lots of potential warband ideas for SoBH to be found among all these little figures.

Vampires perhaps?  Notice the un-primed Irene 'Iron Eyes' Goritsi mercenary miniature in the back?  Her weapon sprue came only with a left arm.  I have to wait until the Kickstarter finishes shipping before they accept 'missing pieces' reports from customers.

Wrath of Kings offers some very detailed miniatures with lots of character.  Hoping to start painting soon.  The kids have already started marking the territory on which ones they want to paint.  Luckily with 80 miniatures I shouldn't be too concerned on dividing them up.

Wrath of Kings

Today I received my Wrath of Kings Kickstarter.  Funded September of 2013, and now in my possession January of 2015.  Seems like a ridiculously long time to wait, but I've learned to NEVER rely on delivery estimates when it comes to Kickstarters.  But, its here, and looks amazing!  

My order consisted of the King pledge level.  So I got the Hadross Starter Set, the Goritsi Starter Set, hardback rulebook, "Iron Eyes" exclusive mini, and a dice bag.  And I checked, everything is in their respective boxes!  Yay!

Hopefully no weapons, arms, bits, etc. are missing, as its going to be awhile before I am done putting everything together.  There is a slight issue that I am facing.  Nothing too major.  All the bases included have recessed centers, which was designed to allow special sculpted inserts to be placed in them.  Unfortunately, I did not order those inserts, nor did I anticipate needing them.
